Dream: World Schooling

One of our biggest dreams is to instill in our children, the love of learning. We are adventurers, naturally curious and have really enjoyed seeing our kids learn by experiencing the world around them. Since we value freedom, family and discovery, it only makes sense that we would become a world schooling family. Homeschooling is when education is done at a distance from a traditional school or at home. Our program is a personal take on what is called distributed learning where we spend only a very small amount of time sitting a learning from books, and a majority of time out of the home, learning on field trips, from professionals, private teachers and yes, from the world around us. We have begun trips to other parts of Canada, the USA (including Hawaii) and Mexico. We made a trip to coffee and cacao plantations in Hawaii, learned about Kilauea volcano, visited the Temple of Kukulcan at Chichén Itzá, discovered Mayan ruins, harvested cranberries in Richmond and explored the Fraser River estuary. Each day, we strive to learn something new about our world about ourselves.
